The Apolipoprotein E (APO E) Genotyping test is a specialized blood test used to identify specific genetic variations that influence how your body processes lipids (fats) and your risk for certain neurological conditions.
By analyzing your DNA, this test determines which combination of the three common APO E alleles (E2, E3, and E4) you inherited from your parents.

What the Results Mean
Everyone carries two copies of the APO E gene. The combination of these alleles determines your genotype:
APO E2/E2: Rare; associated with a higher risk of Type III hyperlipoproteinemia (a specific lipid disorder).APO E3/E3: The most common "neutral" genotype; carries an average risk for disease.APO E3/E4: Increased risk for late-onset Alzheimer’s and elevated cholesterol.APO E4/E4: Highest genetic risk for Alzheimer's and significantly increased cardiovascular risk.
