The Mantoux skin test checks if you have been exposed to the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). A small amount of fluid is injected under the skin on your forearm, and the area is checked a few days later for a reaction like a hard, red bump. It is especially useful for detecting dormant or latent TB infections that are not yet causing symptoms.
